About Crystal

  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Merle

Have you ever seen a prettier or more feminine-looking little Collie? She is an eight-month-old, spayed female, blue merle rough coated Collie. Her foster mom Carol describes her as bright eyed and absolutely wonderful. At 36#, she has the stature of a small and compact pooch. Her silky blue and white coat is growing out and will soon be full and glorious. And people will be stopping you to see where you got this amazingly beautiful little dog. Because she "has a sparkle to her", her foster mom has named her Crystal. If you look closely at the photos and count the number of paws, you will see the tragic consequences of rough behavior with a puppy. Crystal was dropped by a human and the surgical fracture repair did not go well. The blood supply was cut off and there was no choice but to amputate. But Crystal has no idea that she is less than perfect and we would not tell her so. She is now running full speed with her dog-mates and has figured out the balance issues. Because she is so friendly and happy, she needs as full a life as any other puppy, maybe even more so because she can be an inspiration to people with disabilities who might be feeling sorry for themselves. Crystal did not sign on to be a special-needs dog. She wants to be loved as all Collies need to be loved. She is fabulous with other dogs, cats and well-behaved children over the age of 8. She has received all of her vaccinations and is healthy and joyous. This gorgeous little lady is ready to start screening her applications for adoption. We will help her to figure out the most wonderful home possible for a youngster ready for a family of her very own. Please think carefully about all the facets of owning a dog and only apply if you can commit for a lifetime and will have the time and financial resources to take the best care of a precious little girl. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
