OUR FIRST STEP TOWARD ANY ADOPTION IS A COMPLETED APPLICATION WHICH YOU WILL FIND ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org.  WITHOUT THE INFORMATION ON THAT FORM, WE CAN'T BEGIN TO DISCUSS ANY PARTICULAR DOG.

Tommy is a 7 year old neutered male sable and white Sheltie.  He came to us from a crowded shelter where he was not going to be successful.  In the time between late September and now, Tommy has relaxed enough for us to discover who he is and where he belongs in the universe.  His foster mom, Karen, has some lovely things to say about him.  "Tommy has basic training that makes him comfortable to live with.  Sit, down, stay, wait.  He loves to play, especially with stuffed toys.  Chasing a tossed toy or playing tug with another little Sheltie in the family is hi idea of a good time.  All the dogs congregate in the morning for grooming and Tommy waits for his turn and does not mind brushing and trimming.  He has been an excellent eater from Day 1.  And he is 100% housebroken, hallelujah!

And now for his challenges.  (We all have them don't we?)  Karen says that Tommy is pretty much a "one woman dog." He wants nothing to do with Karen's male friend as much as he has tried to woe him.  And although he loves to go for walks either alone or with one of his pack members, if another dog is in sight nearby or even in the distance, he gets agitated and needs to go home to calm down.  Medically, he is in great shape.  Up to date on everything, including a dental cleaning.  He is hypothyroid, which is quite common with middle aged Shelties.  A small dose of supplementation twice a day is inexpensive and is just what the doctor ordered.

We will be accepting applications for Tommy as of 1/13 but will be extremely selective in screening for a perfect home.  Shelties are such sensitive little people.  We need to do our part to keep them happy.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
