A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS OUR FIRST STEP TOWARD ANY ADOPTION.  YOU WILL FIND THE ONLINE APP ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org.  WITHOUT BASIC INFORMATION FROM YOU, WE HAVE NO IDEA IF AMELIA COULD BE YOUR NEXT BEST FRIEND.

"Amelia" is a four-year-old spayed female tri-color smooth coated Collie.  For those of you who have never seen the short-haired variety of the Collie breed, we can enlighten you with the basics.  Like the rough Collie (long haired like Lassie), Amelia has a double coat.  She will need to be brushed a couple of times per week and bathed every couple of months.  Now that Amelia is learning the joys of being a beloved pet, brushing and bathing are not as frightening as they once were.

Amelia is one of the twelve lucky Collies to come to Colorado from the Illinois Collie hoarder confiscation of 198 dogs.  She is the shyest of the group and continues to do much better with women than with men.  She has remained in her original foster home to gain confidence and it is wonderful to watch her begin to trust humans.  We are hoping for a placement for Amelia with a single woman or female couple.  It will take her some time for her to realize she is home and safe.  But if she can learn to adore her foster mom (me!), she will take that next step and love others too.

Please read the basic requirements for placement on our website and make sure that our organization is the group you can feel confident with.  Fenced yard, great reference from your vet, home a good chunk of the time and lots of love to share.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
