About Benny

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Sable
  • Housetrained: Yes
"Benny the Boy" is as bright and shiny as a new copper penny. He is a 10-month-old neutered male sable and white sheltie. Although Benny is being re-homed, he is a dog that has not known an unhappy moment in his life. He was owned by an older person who was not a sensible match for a sheltie puppy. And luckily for all concerned, Benny is here with us and looking for the humans he will spend the rest of his life with. He is just right at 25#, has had all of his vaccines including lepto and rabies and is microchipped with a Home again microchip. The little dude is good with other dogs, housebroken and has a ton of herding instinct. We are also fostering a tiny, badly malnourished sheltie and a puppy mill survivor sheltie and Benny rounds them up for us and brings the herd on in the house. It is hysterical to watch. He might do the same thing with your children! Puppies take a tremendous amount of work to become the dog you want them to be. We will give first priority to applications where at least one of the adults is home a great deal. This is one of the rare shelties that seems to be good with men, women AND children. We would never suggest toddlers with a herding dog. But school age kids should be just fine. Benny is a barker so if your house is in close proximity to your neighbors, that might be an issue. But cute and sweet, he is. Please review the adoption information section on our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org and if we sound like your kind of folks, continue with the online application. You will receive e-mail confirmation that we got your application and we will call you for a phone interview and progress to the vet reference and home visit if we think you would be a reasonable match for one of our fabulous dogs. I know it sounds a bit cumbersome but it is a tried and true method that has been working well for years. And so, we continue to use it. Thanks for looking in on us. We enjoyed having you here.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
