We hear this story all too often. Owner relinquished. A product of our times. Too thin or too plump, poor coat, not groomed in a while, no recent vet care. The reasons are as numerous as the stars in the skies. But what it boils down to is not enough resources to go around. People’s needs have to come first. Heather Rose is a gentle, sweet-natured spayed female sable and white Sheltie in this category. Her entire three years have been spent with an older lady who adored her little dog. When the woman’s health deteriorated, she was lucky enough to have some family members move in with her to enable her to stay in her home. Some adjustments needed to be made. Rosie is starting to show little glimpses of who she is and who she could become. She has always been an only dog but she enjoys playing with other dogs, people and toys. Very young children are too much for her but well-behaved kids over the age of 8 or so would be fine. She has spent more time with women than men but she seems adaptable in this way. Given a choice between being close to her people and outside playing, her humans will win out every time. She gives kisses and lies at your feet gazing at you with adoring eyes. Her initial blood work has shown Heather Rose to be hypothyroid, which could account for her crummy coat. A much better diet and twice a day thyroid supplementation will make her a whole new dog in just a few months. Inexpensive medication but lifelong, twice a day every day. She is housebroken and crate trained, as well. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.CollieSheltieRescue.org, reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
