You are looking at a spayed female Collie named Hazel (no, we did not name her that!). She is approximately 7 years old but seems younger. She is housebroken, affectionate, sweet-natured and enjoys the company of other dogs. Hazel’s coat was heavily matted when she was found as a stray, so she was buzzed by the shelter staff. But her coat is growing rapidly and soon she will have the classic rough collie look. All indications are that she will have a beautiful sable coat when it grows back in. When Hazel first arrived from Arkansas, she was docile and submissive, as if she didn’t know where she was or why. But she decided to make the best of things and comply with the humans that had rescued her. She had little appetite and the occasional tail-wag was just a quiver. But as the days passed and she came to realize that her foster home was more than just an overnight, she began to settle in. She has regained her appetite and she really enjoys being petted about the head, rubbed and scratched all over and shows her appreciation and anticipation with her heart-warming tail-wag. Hazel didn’t “speak” until about the fifth day. Now that she is comfortable with the layout of the yard and with the tutelage of her foster collie sister, she now leads the charge from the house when the squirrels are observed running along the fence or birds swoop in and out of the bushes. All in all, she is a gentle and pleasant companion and loves interaction with humans. She is curious about the cat but not aggressive, good on a leash, travels well in the car, eats like a champ and has lovely manners. She is updated with all vaccines, microchipped and had a much needed dental with extractions. Her mouth must have hurt her for some time and we were pleased to be able to relieve her pain and make her smile bright and beautiful. She appears to have many good years left to share with people who deserve such a remarkable dog. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well
