The only thing cuter than a collie puppy is … absolutely nothing! Meet darling little Catherine. Summertime is tough on dogs, both from the perspective of heat and from the all -too-common abandonment of animals to fend for themselves. This perfect little specimen of a rough collie puppy is an example of our throw-away society. We will never know why someone was not careful and loving with Catherine but their loss is our gain. Catherine is approximately four months old and looks a little younger because she was pretty malnourished when she was found in the middle of nowhere. She has now had her first and second series of parvo/distemper vaccines, rabies, good baseline blood work including a negative heartworm test, been spayed and had her rear dew-claws removed and microchipped with a Home Again. Catherine’s foster family raves about her gentle manners and charming personality. We are told that any positive attribute that we can name suits her to a T. “She is still a very silly and playful pup. She adores children and other dogs and would be lonely without a canine pal or two. Her housebreaking is going very well especially when we remember to take her out often. She eats small meals three times a day while she puts on some needed flesh and we find her sitting very politely, waiting for her humans to notice that it is “time for chow.” Catherine is completely comfortable in a crate and often goes in by herself to nap or hang out with a chew toy. Please understand that our first responsibility is to the dogs that come into our program from all kinds of situations. We pride ourselves on having the best adopters on the planet and we want to make them all happy. But it has to be doggies first! So please don’t even consider adopting a puppy unless at least one adult is home most of the time, the kids are over 8 years old and you have a fairly young, companionable dog or two to be good role models. We hate to disappoint people but it would be even worse to let down a dog. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
