Collie (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Large
Lorelei did not come to us with that name. But the name she arrived with held no meaning for her. She simply did not respond to it. A sweet thank you to Bruce and Barbara Miller for transporting this lovely dog to us and giving her the name that suits her to a “T.”
Although Lorelei was sad and neglected when she arrived, she has had a wonderful transformation over the last couple of weeks. Someone had shaved this poor girl down to the skin and her fur is growing in and she will have a real Collie coat by the time cold weather arrives. Her nose was blistered badly from being left in the scorching sun for long days with no shade. The blisters have healed and the dark pigment is coming back gradually.
We had her teeth cleaned and polished and her smile is beautiful. All of her vaccines have been brought up to date, she is spayed and she is now microchipped with a Home Again universal chip and her registration is included with her adoption package. Loralie is about seven years old but has a lot of younger energy now that she is happy and knows that she is loved. Her bright eyes watch me from wherever she plops down to relax and she is never far away from the center of activity. She is companionable with all of the other dogs in her foster home, large and small, young and older. An 8-year-old girl is her pal and they go walking together when the 100 degree heat permits.
Lorelei could be happy in almost any setting. Multiple dogs would be fine as long as they would not be overly dominant for she is as gentle as a lamb. Being an only dog and the center of the universe would not be so bad either as long as her humans spent a lot of time with her. It is the attention and snuggle time that she craves to make up for her time without the softness that Collies need to be complete.
Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
