About Tawny

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White
  • Housetrained: Yes
Miss Tawny (also known as "Big-Nosed Kate" by her beloved foster family) is a lovely example of a 1-year-old spayed female that has the unusual markings of a sable-headed white rough-coated Collie. She is mild-mannered and gentle and loves nothing more than giving and receiving little kisses. For a dog that had probably never been in a house before she moved in with her foster family, she has made huge strides. The master bedroom is where she prefers to relax if either of the adults happens to be there. She loves men and women but gets uncomfortable with very young children. Kids over the age of 10 should be fine. Walking on a leash with her humans is one of Tawny's favorite things to do. She seems to feel like she is the center of the universe when walking side by side with her person. That one on one time is a real pleasure for her and she shows her joy in little yips of pleasure. But should a loud noise startle her, she displays that lack of early socialization that her foster family is making amends for. Tawny enjoys soft "dollies" to play with, especially the ones that will squeak when nibbled on. She may seem a little clumsy but she is adjusting to so many changes in her life that you can see the inner puppy she has been. Another young dog to show her the ins and outs of a family will help her make the full transition to a well -adjusted and well- loved dog. Tawny is up to date on all of her vaccines, heartworm negative and has great baseline blood work. She has been micro-chipped with a Home Again chip and her adoption will include the lifetime registration in their national database. She has never had any potty accidents in the house and she learned the doggie door in short order. Tawny asked us specifically to look for a family with at least one of the human home for her to buddy around with during the day. I told her we would try! Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
