About Ginger

  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Housetrained: Yes
Have you ever met a dog that wags her entire body when she wags her tail?? Ginger is the tri-colored Collie that fits that description. She is a 3-year-old spayed female with lovely silky fur and a beautiful soul to match her beautiful face. "Everything is her favorite thing. We have never met a happier dog," says her foster mom, Cally. "We have had to Ginger-proof the living room." (That means that the coffee table had to be cleared so that her beautiful sweeping tail did not remove things. I wonder if that counts as dusting??) Ginger was in a municipal shelter in Arkansas where she did not have many good options for her future. As I have often said, it takes a lot of enlightened human beings to make the necessary connections for dogs. Mandy in Arkansas got Ginger out of the shelter before she became a statistic. Next came the skills of the staff at the All Dogs Clinic in Rogers, Arkansas for blood work, vaccines and a health certificate for transport from Arkansas to Colorado. The actual transport is handled by CARE (Colorado Animal Rescue Express) that is headed by two wonderful women with a vision. Please check out their website (www.caretransport.org) to be dazzled by their success stories and sheer numbers of dogs brought to safety. Ginger’s Foster Dad Extraordinaire, picked her up at the transport's final location and got her settled at his house. Then came the staff of the Pet Wellness Clinic in Fort Collins that handle our dogs in that part of Colorado. The doctors checked her out carefully and did not find evidence of her being spayed, so the pre-anesthetic blood work was next, both CBC and blood chemistry. Since everything checked out well, she was spayed and micro-chipped. And then back to her foster home to recover from surgery and get the final touches she needs to be ready to be adopted. As I said, it takes a lot of wonderful people to make miracles for dogs! Ginger is housebroken, good in a vehicle, does not mind being groomed and is fabulous with other dogs. Even cats are not an issue. She is friendly, outgoing, playful and absolutely ready for her forever family to come forward and make her the happiest dog on the planet. I would imagine there will be some tears from her foster mom and dad when Ginger walks out of their lives and moves forward. But our magnificent foster folks understand the bigger picture, to give of themselves over and over, and to help a sad and frightened pooch become a bright-eyed and confident dog ready to be the focal point of a family. That is what Rocky Mountain Collie & Sheltie Rescue is all about. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
