Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
This is Cimarron, a 2-year-old male Sheltie, a little shy and subdued, but also gentle and compliant. He came from one of our municipal shelters and because of a special need, would not have been put up for adoption. But we are lucky to have the capacity and the time to look for just the right home environment for him. Because dear little Cimmy has what may well be a seizure disorder. In a month, he has had only one episode and it lasted less than a minute. That is not to say that he might not have more as he ages. We don’t have a crystal ball to help us predict the future. But for now, a small dose of Phenobarbatol at 8 AM and 8 PM keeps him safe and seizure-free.
Cimmy eats like a champ and loves to take treats from men, women and children. He shares his foster ho me with multiple dogs and does well with all of them. Cats are an unknown. He gets the concept of not pottying in the house and eats up the praise for pottying outside and other good deeds. At 23#, we are encouraging him to be a lap dog but he is not confident enough for that yet. It does not seem that he has had the best of care early in his life. But we are making up for it now.
It will take a special family to take on the challenge of a dog like Cimarron. The monthly cost of medication is low but the emotional outlay is far greater. With special needs comes a special kind of love and commitment. Only you can determine if your family is the right match for Cimarron. He would love you for a lifetime. How about you?
