Collie (long coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Medium
Rory is one of those glorious rough-coated Collies that makes you wonder what on earth people were thinking when they did not look for him in a shelter in Kansas. Granted, he had heartworm disease. And was pitifully thin. But his spirit was strong and he looked Lisa right in the eye and said, “Thank heaven you got here so quickly. I need you.” And his tail went “thump, thump, thump” with the joy of being so close to a human that obviously cared about him. That is how he got the nickname of Thumper.
That first day was August 17, 2013. When he was healthy enough, he had the injections that are designed to kill the heartworm disease without killing the dog. With excellent care from the veterinary hospital and his wonderful foster mom, Lisa, he has come through with flying colors.Rory When he tested negative, we could then proceed with his neuter and dental. (He had a broken tooth.) Vaccines and a microchip completed his medical needs. And all along the process, he was cuddled and snuggled by his foster family. He is great with men, women and children, of course. He enjoys the company of other dogs and even cats. He is the quintessential Collie that is a distant cousin to Lassie. And he holds his head up proudly and looks you square in the eye, just as the breed standard says he should.
Rory deserves the best home that any Collie ever had. He wants to go everywhere with his people. Take a walk, drop the kids off at school, run errands with mom (especially to buy premium quality dog food), pick the kids up after school and cheer at soccer practice. His humans will be the center of his universe. He would make us proud as an Ambassador for Rocky Mountain Collie and Sheltie Rescue, attending events to show people how wonderful a dog can be. And when the day comes to a close and the lights go out, Rory will position his big sweet self on a cushy dog bed and guard those lucky humans with every fiber of his being. Because that is who Rory is!
