Collie (long coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Large
Hurley is a handsome 4-year-old (?) male rough Collie who has begun a fantastic journey to a better life. After his rescue from the horrors of his “life” in Houston (see the writeup on the home page), Hurley is learning that humans are a source of love, joy, warmth, snuggles, and good food . . . just the way it should be. Though a little rough around the edges (given where he came from, can you blame him?) he is well on his way to a healthy weight, growing his coat back out, getting the veterinary care he never received, and becoming an integral member of a family.
HurleyHurleyHurley loves having regular meals, and shows no food aggression toward other dogs or when human hands go near his bowl. He also thinks treats are a pretty fine invention, and is gentle enough when taking them that even kids can feed him. Since he was starved for a good portion of his life, he does not understand that not all food is meant for him. Counter-surfing is a habit he will need to break but, in all reality, it may be something he will never fully understand. Time and patience will tell. He gets along famously with his four canine foster sisters (two medium-sized shepherd mixes and two 11-week-old heeler mix puppies), and exhibits no aggression with anybody. Even the cats are no problem for him. He is a very gentle soul.
This big goofy guy loves having full-body rubdowns; he just can’t get enough of human touch. One of his favorite things is to put his head in his foster mom’s hands and let her gently stroke his face. He does very well with children, and has been around little guys as young as 3 years old. He does not jump on them, lets them walk him on his leash or guide him gently by the collar, and give him kisses on the nose.
Hurley has been vaccinated and microchipped. He will be neutered when he has recovered more fully from his ordeal. There are a number of other tests and procedures that need to be completed before we can put Hurley officially on our Available list. Hurley is a very lucky boy, and we can’t wait to see his progress.
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well. |
