Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
Buttons is a 6-year-old neutered male Sheltie that came to us from our good friends at National Mill Dog Rescue. Director Theresa Strader and her fabulous team managed to end the puppy mill careers of Buttons and two of his "love slaves" in January but realized that the shy Sheltie is a dog that will need a tremendous amount of TLC. Buttons has surprised us with how quickly he has responded to good food and lots of treats taken from a human hand. He is walking well on a leash and coming when called (sort of!). The little dude has a fabulous glossy coat although we have no idea why. His two lady friends show how much harder the life is for a puppy producing female.
Buttons wants what all our dogs want. Someone to whisper in his ear that he is the most handsome dog they have ever seen. Someone to cuddle him and take him for a ride in the car for an ice cream cone at Dairy Queen. Someone to turn him from just a dog into "the most loved dog ever on the planet." Someone to make him an RMCSR dog.
Buttons is heartworm negative, has all his vaccines and had a dental at the same time as his neuter. He is microchipped, crate-trained and well on his way to being housebroken. Kids over the age of 10 would be fun for him but not overwhelming. We think young children would have him hiding under furniture and that would not be fun for anyone. Another Sheltie or other companionable dog would make his life complete.
The open-mouth relaxed looking face is referred to as a Sheltie smile. That is what we want for him for all the rest of his life. If you believe you can make this all come true for a little guy with a crummy past and an unlimited future, we want to hear from you.
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Policies and Guidelines and, if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
