Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
Dumpling, a spayed female Sheltie, came into our lives from a municipal shelter that felt that a breed rescue would do better with a pudgy dog that needed a weight reduction program. In the month that the little girl has been with us, she has lost almost 4#, at least a little of which was from her grooming. She has also had a dental cleaning with just two extractions and is sporting a new collar with her tags jingling merrily, including a Home Again microchip tag.
Dumpling was featured in a "name that dog" contest although the name Dumpling got more votes than any other name. Who would have guessed? When she came to us at the beginning of June, she was unsure of herself and a little snippy. But her personality has changed quite a bit and she now runs and plays with the other pooches in her foster home and greets each new human with a smile on her darling little face.
We are guessing she is about 7 years old but is definitely a young 7. She will dash around with a tennis ball in her mouth and will bring it to a person to ask for a rousing game of fetch. (More often than not the person ends up fetching more than Dumpling. LOL) The vet would like to see her hold her weight around 20#. So lots of playtime will help with that as well as curtailing the treats.
Dumpling is petite so very young children might be too much for her to have in her everyday life. Visiting grandkids would be fun though. She likes men as well as women. And the size of her doggie friends does not seem important to her. She was wrestling with a one year old small Collie earlier today and she and Remmington pal around together often.
