THE FIRST STEP TOWARD ANY ADOPTION IS A COMPLETED APPLICATION WHICH YOU WILL FIND ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org.  THE MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION YOU CAN SHARE WITH US ABOUT YOUR LIFE, THE BETTER WE CAN HELP GUIDE YOU TO A ERPFECT MATCH FOR YOUR FAMILY.

Pumpkin is an 9 week old tri-color, smooth coated Collie puppy.  A shorter coat is distinctive and is not seen nearly as frequently in Colorado as the more traditional long haired Collie like everyone's beloved Lassie, of days gone by.  We are often struck by the fact that kids have no idea who Lassie was.  I think we should make a concerted effort to change that.  Get your Collies out into the community for walks and local shopping.  Make it a point to introduce your Collies to children.  Let's bring Lassie back into the culture of Colorado.

A smooth coated Collie is more of a wash and wear dog than the traditional long coat that is glorious but needs lots of upkeep.  Weekly brushing will still be required to keep Pumpkin looking her best.  This particular pup was the first of her litter to stand up on her back legs and ask to be lifted from her enclosure.  She is one of the biggest of the pups and may be about 60 pounds when full grown.  She is very athletic and loves to chase the adult Collie in her foster home around the yard.  Why use steps when a leap will do?  No fear!  But Collies are very soft dogs and need a light touch from their humans as far as training and housebreaking goes.  Loud voices and harsh words are not well suited to a Collie.

Please read the adoption information section on our website about the fenced yard requirement.  No invisible fences will be approved.  We will need a terrific reference from your veterinarian and either a home visit done by one of our volunteers or digital photos that show your fenced backyard and interior of your home where the pup will be living.

It will be exciting to read the applications as they come in for Pumpkin and the other puppies in this litter.  The foster parents will have the last word on where each of the pups go. They should because they have been in charge of love for the first 9 weeks of these babies lives.
