Collie (long coat) : : Male : : Young : : Large
Rocketman is a hoot! He is a neutered male, sable-headed white rough Collie, 1 1/2 years old. Initially we thought he might have been a bit chubby but it was all undercoat. He is now sparkling white and silky but a new owner will have to commit to keeping up with his grooming. A rough collie should be completely brushed out once a week or so. If you keep up with maintenance yourself, the groomer should not be seeing you more than every other month. But grooming is definitely one of the budget items with a rough Collie in your life. Rocket does not know a great deal about the world but he is smart and willing to learn. His housebreaking is coming along well and he is so proud of himself when he does sit and down, but only with a yummy treat. When he runs, his feet barely touch the ground he is so fast. Once he gets his energy under control a little better, he will do wonderfully in obedience and possibly agility. I can even imagine Rocketman doing 'freestyle' which is dancing with your dog. Before you consider applying for Rocket, ask yourself if you have the time and dedication to devote to an intelligent and active dog. He is not a dog to be put in a backyard to amuse himself. He needs lots of human touch and conversation and going places to see the world. Collies are so incredibly special and they deserve the very best. Without a completed application which you will find on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, we can't even begin a discussion. Please let us help you find the best possible match for your family.
