"Shadow" is aptly named.  Her humans (whomever they may be!) are the center of her universe.  Shadow is a spayed female four-year-old Sheltie mix (perhaps border collie?)  She came to RMCSR at the request of a municipal shelter in northern Colorado where she was not handling the stress of the shelter environment well.  Many sensitive dogs like Shelties simply shut down with fear, hide in a back corner and even try to bite someone who comes in their kennel to clean or feed.

This little girl will take a bit of time to settle into a new home.  She will not even 'show' well when possible adopters come to meet her.  But we can guess at the kind of folks who would love her for a lifetime and she would feel the same way about.  Shadow has requested an only dog home although she is part of a pack of seven at the Director's house.  She enjoys getting out to smell the flowers but needs the confidence building of a group obedience class.  She is equally cuddly with men and women, also a teenager of 14 and a great-grandma of 92.

Shadow is up-to-date on all vaccines, heartworm negative, has fabulous bloodwork and is microchipped.  She is housebroken and has even learned the doggie door in her foster home.  She is crate trained which is a valuable tool when she is being introduced to her new home or if you go cross-country and plan to stay in hotels.  She loves to cuddle on the couch with a human to watch a movie (she likes TCM just like her foster mom!) and is very empathetic if someone is not feeling well.  One of the photos we took is of Shadow helping my adult daughter with a headache.  She simply plopped on top of Jennifer and refused to leave! LOL

In my humble opinion, Shadow has been treated with the indifference that too many dogs in this country share.  Crummy food, no regular grooming or toenail trims, not even basic obedience training.  Just a dog in a backyard.  In the short time that Shadow has been with RMCSR, she has blossomed and that is what we want for her.  She deserves to be happy and to develop the fabulous bond that can exist between an enlightened human and a receptive dog.

A completed application is always our first step.  You will find it on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
