Our little Suzy is at home with Larry, her foster dad, who will be fussing over her 24/7 for the foresee-able future. We will ask for photos and updates often. More tomorrow. Sleep well Suzy Q (for cute.) *****************************************************************
It is 2:42 PM mountain time (on 11/1/17) and Suzy Q is prepped and ready for surgery. Dr. Bauer is scrubbing and everyone is poised and ready to make a miracle for the sweet little Sheltie that has been living in pain for a year. Prayers and good wishes please! **************************************************************************** Through the incredibly generous donations of you "Suzy Q lovers," we now have the funds for her orthopedic surgery. Bless your hearts! Now, please share your bright thoughts and "good juju" for the skilled hands of Dr. Michael Bauer, her surgeon at Colorado Canine Orthopedics. She is scheduled for November 1. **************************************************************************** Suzy Q is a gentle and sweet-natured seven year old Sheltie that has been living with a broken ankle for about a year. She has recently been examined by Dr. Mike Bauer of Colorado Canine Orthopedics in Colorado Springs who has cared for quite a few of our Collies and Shelties over the years that need corrective procedures or rehab. Watching Dr. Bauer do an intake exam on a dog makes me wish that human "orthopods" were as skilled. He watched little Suzy struggle to walk down the hall in his office and asked if he could take additional x-rays, although she had x-rays from two other veterinarians. Two views of her ankle were taken and in just a few minutes he came back into the exam room with a big smile on his handsome face. "We can fix this. Suzy needs a partial tarsal arthrodesis. She may not have full range of motion in the joint but she won't be in pain anymore." That is the best news we could have had. The surgery involves cleaning all the scar tissue down to healthy bone, aligning the broken pieces correctly and plating the whole shebang with screws to give her stability in her ankle joint. Suzy Q should be weight bearing within a week. And with a lot of love and a special star to wish on, she may be dancing by New Year's Eve. Even with our rescue discount of 30%, the cost of the procedure will be $2300 and is scheduled for November 1. That gives us a small window of time in which to raise the funds to help Suzy be all the dog she can be. Please help us help Suzy Q. All donations are 100% tax deductible. We thank you and Suzy sends her love. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.
