Our first step is an application. If you are interested in any of our rescue dogs, go to our website at pueblocolliesheltie.org and THOROUGHLY read the Adoption Info section. If we sound like the right group for you, we invite you to submit an application after completing that section. We do not give our information about our dogs without an application. Naming a dog Lucky will not necessarily bring him good fortune. Like this sad little sheltie that has come into our group as an owner relinquishment, 'Lucky' comes to us with more than the usual baggage. He has an eyelid problem that was diagnosed but left untreated in another state and now it will be up to us to make him completely well if we can and at least pain-free if that is all that can be done. Lucky is a neutered male sable and white sheltie that weighs in at 17#. And most of his mass is fur! He is gentle and a little shy, housebroken, good with other dogs and seems to adore men and women equally. Toddlers would be too much rowdy noise for Lucky but he would do well with older children if they would be considerate of him. He has known harsh voices and perhaps harsh treatment in his past but he is safe in Colorado now and will never have to worry again. Lucky arrived with another sheltie but since the other pooch has some medical issues as well, we have separated the dogs where they can each have undivided attention. This little dog will be kept in his present foster home through some additional diagnosis and treatment but it does not mean that he can't be looking for his 'forever family' at the same time. To begin our process, please read through the adoption information section on our website and then proceed to the online application. The more information you are willing to share with us, the better we can help to guide the adoption process for you. We are blessed to have multiple applications for most of our adoptable dogs and we try very hard to match the family to the dog and vice versa. So please consider all of the reasons to have a pet and all the reasons not to. Money...how much wiggle room do you have in your budget? Dogs are expensive. Good quality dog food, veterinary care, toys and treats. It all adds up. Time....dogs deserve to be made a part of the family from the first moment their little paws touch the floor. Will you have time to walk him, toss a ball in the backyard and not to forget snuggle time? Does everyone in the family agree of getting a dog? Lots of questions and they all need honest answers. Most of the dogs in America's shelters were wanted by a family at least briefly. And then those same dogs were tossed aside like a used Kleenex when they became inconvenient. We will not let that happen to Lucky or any other dog in our program. Please help us help them. Don't breed or buy while homeless pets die.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process.
