Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie (long coat) : : Female : : Young : : Medium
Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
Our first step is an application. If you are interested in any of our rescue dogs, go to our website at pueblocolliesheltie.org and THOROUGHLY read the Adoption Info section. If we sound like the right group for you, we invite you to submit an application after completing that section. We do not give our information about our dogs without an application.
In Nikki's photos, you can see how lovely she is. She is a tall but
slightly built sheltie with shorter than usual fur. Because she is so young
(about 1 year), she has not developed her undercoat yet and it makes her
look quite slender. Her markings are distinctive and the texture of her
coat is silky. All of her vet care has been completed.....spay, all
vaccines, heartworm test, baseline blood chemistry and CBC and a Home Again
microchip. She is housebroken and has some basic obedience training under
her belt. She was relinquished to us by a woman living alone who was not
capable of handling such a young and energetic dog.
When we use the term energetic, we mean it. She is the type of sheltie that
runs effortlessly and it is such a pleasure to watch her. She adores other
dogs and will pace herself to match another dog's athletic ability. But
given the opportunity, in a good-sized yard with a 6 foot fence and a nice
crop of grass, Nikki will dazzle you with her speed and grace. If she went
into a potential agility home, there is no telling how far she could go
against other dogs in her size class. The look on her face is one of pure
joy. And she could run and play with the children in her family instead of
as a competitor and be just as happy. But the apartment she was living in
was not appropriate and we will help her make a wise selection this time.
Application first, please. We will chat with you by phone and check your
vet reference. Everyone has a home visit done. It is part of our protocol
and we stick to it. We will need to meet all the members of your family
just as they will want to meet Nikki. When we are all in agreement, we
proceed with the adoption. Summer is a wonderful time to bring a new pooch
into your life. The next step is yours!
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well. |
