About Dusk

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Housetrained: Yes
Placing a puppy may sound like it would be easier than placing an adult dog, but it is every bit as tough if not more so. We placed Dusk over a month ago with people that pledged to train her and teach her everything a young dog should know. Dogs do not come pre-programmed, we explained. Nod, nod. Basic obedience is required. Nod, nod. Never leave a puppy unsupervised. They will de- construct your house. Nod, nod. Poor Dusk. She has wasted a whole month of her young life with promises that were not kept. Dusk is a 5-6 month-old tri-colored smooth collie puppy. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and is beginning to understand that she is a pooch and her foster mom is in charge. Dusk has some bad habits that will take some time to be corrected. She is learning “off.” (Please don’t jump up on us.) She is also learning to chew only on chew toys and not on heirlooms. Dog beds are for snuggling and not for munching. This is all “puppy stuff” and takes time and patience. We can coach you through a lot of it but some of it is just plain common sense. All the time and love you share with your young dog is the basis for who that dog becomes. Dusk is smart and has magnificent potential. But she needs your help to reach it. An adult dog that is not too annoyed with a puppy would be a huge help in training an unruly youngster. Lots of energy to run off. And then you can find the wonderful dog underneath. We will screen carefully for a committed family to belong to Dusk forever. Please……only apply if you understand the commitment you will be making. A lifetime of love and trust. An application is the first step. Please read the adoption information section which you will find on our website and then proceed to the online application. We will have a phone conversation with you and request a reference from your veterinarian. The home visit is next. It sounds like it would take a long time to for all of this to be accomplished but for the right adopter, it is amazing how quickly it can all flow. Thanks for visiting with us. The dogs loved it!

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
