About Piper

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Housetrained: Yes
We would be very surprised if you have ever seen a lovelier and more graceful young collie than Piper. She is eight months old, spayed, completely vaccinated, microchipped with a Home Again chip, housebroken and glorious. She has the boundless energy of a healthy youngster especially when playing full-out with her doggie pals. And she becomes the typical loving collie companion when she is with her two-legged friends and in a slower space. Piper has been in a home with kindergarten aged children and done remarkably well. Obviously, she is still a bit bouncy and will need to be reminded not to munch on things that are left out and within her reach. That is just Puppy Basics 101. Piper will only be placed with a family that is committed to making her a full-fledged family member. A collie has a silken thread that goes from their heart to the people they love and they never want to be far away from them. Piper's coat is silky and the majority of her undercoat will come in with the colder weather. She will need regular brushing at least a couple of times a week. And we recommend professional grooming at least four times a year done by a groomer that truly understands never to cut down a collie's beautiful fur. The bond between a dog and her new best friend will be strengthened by an obedience class. Piper has had some initial classes and will make her human partner look great. She knows "sit,""down,""stay,""wait" and "treat." Obedience classes are all about communication skills. Please go to our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org if you have not done so already and read the adoption information section. It will answer many of your basics questions about our process. A completed application is our first step toward making a fabulous match with an incredible dog. We will chat with you by phone or e-mail and call to get a reference from your vet. One of our amazing volunteeers will do a home visit to look at areas that will be comfortable for a dog to be in. We don't care about dirty dishes but we do care about boundless love. The foster family will want to chat with prospective adopters. It all sounds like a long process but you would be surprised how quickly we can get it done for the right family. And, by the way, Piper sends her love.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
