Collie (long coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Medium
Dawson is a three-year-old neutered male, sable and white rough collie with a huge heart filled with love. To watch Dawson engage with a young child is to re-connect with the magic of Lassie. Whatever incarnation of Lassie you remember from your childhood, the essence of that fabulous dog was the incredible bond Lassie had with young Timmy in the television series or with the Roddy McDowell character in the original movie, Lassie Come Home. Dawson was raised with an adolescent girl who had a major health concern. Dawson and his littermate Angel stayed close to the girl, offering the most unconditional love possible, for three years. Now the young lady has moved on with her life and Dawson has all of that love to give to another child or two. He is housebroken and has some basic obedience training. He is scheduled for a dental cleaning and polishing when his Home Again microchip will be inserted. At the same time, we will do a biopsy on Dawson's nose to rule out any unusual reason for the lack of pigment. His vaccines are all updated and he is downright awesome.
Although Dawson came into PC/SR with his sister, we will be placing the dogs independently. Each of them enjoy the company of other dogs and has developed friendships with their foster siblings. Dawson plays happily with a German Shepherd puppy and sleeps soundly on the bed of the human Kindergartner, Aaron. He is tolerant of cats and even the birds and small reptiles that round out the Mitchell's complex household. It would be tragic to place this wonderful pooch without kids. So, we are looking for a family that wants to write their own story about the dog that came to them and stayed forever.
Please go to our website at www.pueblocolliesheltie.org and read the adoption information section. It should answer many of your questions about our adoption process. We begin with a completed application which you will be able to access online and please share as much detail about your life as possible. It helps us to make good matches when we know lots of details. We will call your regular vet for a reference about the loving care you give your current pets. And one of our volunteers will arrive at your convenience to do a home visit and send us a report. Does this sound like a lot of work to go to to find a home for a dog? You bet! And they are worth it!
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well. |
