Cooper T. Reilly is the name of this darling blue merle rough-coated Collie. He is a one-year-old neutered male with a lot of love to share with an entire family. He likes men, women and children. In his foster home, he lives with an 8-year-old boy (who he loves to play with), a 3-year-old boy (who he is constantly checking on) and a 15 month old baby (who he loves to give kisses and clean up sticky fingers and face). He is never rambunctious with them, even when they are playing. Cooper also does well with this foster sibling, a young collie mix. They run and play in the backyard but once they are in the house, they flop down near each other and chill. Kitties are not an issue for Coop and the one kitten that hisses turns him into a big scaredy-dog.
Cooper is an adolescent pooch that is quickly making up for not having a lot of training during his first year. His basic nature is lovely and mild and those traits need to be encouraged at the same time he is adding new skills. Leash walking is coming along well in addition to his housebreaking. He has crate-trained himself and is kenneled over night so that the humans can sleep and nothing critical will be eaten. He understands the "uh-uh" interruption which is so very important when he starts to eat someone's important "something." That old trick of "my dog ate my homework" does not work as well as it did when our Director was young, many years ago.
Cooper is up-to-date on all vaccines, is neutered and is micro-chipped with a Home Again chip. Even his lifetime database registration is included in his adoption. We will only place this pup (and all of his Collie and Sheltie friends) where they will have a lifetime fabulous life. Please don't bother to apply if you don't meet the standards that are outlined on our website. We hate to turn people down but it is the dogs that are our primary concern.
Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
