About Callie

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Sable
  • Housetrained: Yes
Callie Collie is a gentle and sweet-tempered sable and white rough-coated Collie that is about 7 or 8 years old. She is spayed and has been brought up-to-date on all her vaccinations. She is a small female that is gaining strength and energy after having her spleen removed. It may be that Callie was injured earlier in her life and that injury caused a collection of blood in her spleen to form into a mass which was detected by ultrasound. Although we intend to do a thorough dental cleaning, Dr. Brockman of Boulder's Natural Animals wants us to give her some rehab time before the second general anesthetic. If we find just the right match for Callie in short order, we will pay for her dental when the time is right with her new regular vet rather than hold her back from her new life. Sweet Callie is reliably housebroken and adores being groomed. She enjoys being in the car and will ask to go with you on errands. A bouncy, "in your face" kind of dog would not be her companion of choice. But more sedate dogs, kitty cats and all humans are her friends. Having an organ removed is a big deal for a dog but Callie has taken it in stride. She needs to gain ten pounds or so and is eating and drinking well and sleeping through the night, so the added muscle mass will come with time. She flies up and down the steps in her foster home and breaks into a welcoming smile when her humans greet her. It is hard to know how long she was not feeling well in Oklahoma. But she is a Colorado girl now and life is getting better every day. Please begin the process for adoption by going to our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org, reading our policies and guidelines, and if we sound like the right group for you, proceed to the online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. A good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit will round out our screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously. Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
