Learn more about the Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie.
This little sable and white Sheltie is Duncan, the happiest dog on God’s green earth. He just celebrated his 10th birthday in October with a healthy diet and a run through the grass with his foster pack pals. Duncan is a born leader. He can raise a ruckus with one bark and the other dogs are with him for a game of chase either in the house or out the door. But amazingly, he can be laid-back and at ease, preferring a snooze to all other activities, except perhaps eating, his absolute favorite pastime. He is also fond of a good massage, gentle brushing, stuffed toys and (did I mention??) cookies . . . lots of cookies.
Our little friend weighed in at 25# for his intake exam at Franktown Animal Clinic which is about three pounds over where he should be. He is heartworm negative, has normal CBC and blood chemistry and is current on all his vaccines. At the time of his dental cleaning, he was implanted with a Home Again microchip. We discovered that Duncan may have had a broken jaw in his past that was left untreated and he now has a snaggle tooth that is a lower canine that shifted from vertical to nearly horizontal. It does not appear to bother him in the slightest and we hope it won’t bother you either. His teeth are sparkling white and he certainly has no trouble eating. He is neutered, house trained, amazingly obedient, gets along beautifully with other dogs and has come to us with very little baggage. What a dog
One more thing. Duncan prefers to sleep on the bed with his humans so be aware that you may need to make a small spot for a sweet little friend on your bed and in your life. As his foster dad would say, “Some fortunate family will read Duncan’s bio, perceive his incredibly sweet disposition and open their hearts to him. Take him to his forever home where he will instantly brighten their lives . . . now and forever.”
Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.
