Learn more about the Golden Retriever. Learn more about the Collie.
sper is a wonderfully healthy, energetic and affectionate 3-year-old, 58 pound, mixed breed male dog. He came to us from Wyoming shelter where he was apparently no stranger. Our best guess is he is a mix between a golden retriever and a darker coated breed, possibly a border collie. His is striking dog with an enduring personality. He loves people and has been our shadow for his entire stay with us. He absolutely loves to play ball and will play fetch any time of day (or night). Jasper is a very curious and confident. He thoroughly explored our home, including every shower, bathtub and even the inside of our clothes dryer.
He is very intelligent and very high energy. He needs human attention and time playing ball or running. Without this attention, he will engage in destructive behavior like shredding toys or helping himself to food in the kitchen. If he gets his playtime in, he is content to curl up next to us and just enjoy the company. He plays well with our other dogs, but is more interested in human companionship. We have found our other dogs to be good company for him when we have to be out of the house.
Jasper would be happy in a home with more experienced and patient dog owners who have time to spend with him and are willing work with him. Jasper knows the basics such as sit and is house broken. He is very responsive to training and demonstrates a sincere interest in pleasing his humans.
Jasper is a diamond in the rough. He will be the most loyal, affectionate dog you will ever own, after dedicated time and training.
