Collie (medium coat) : : Male : : Baby : : Large
OUR FIRST STEP IS A COMPLETED APPLICATION WHICH YOU WILL FIND ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org. PLEASE READ ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION AND THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTION. A SECURELY FENCED YARD, EXCELLENT REFERENCE FROM YOUR CURRENT VETERINARIAN AND PRIOR COLLIE EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY FOR PUPPIES ARE ALL REQUIRED. WE ALSO DO A HOME VISIT OR MAY ACCEPT DIGITAL PHOTOS IF WE CAN'T ARRANGE ONE. Thistle (one of the Nebraska "growing like a weed" puppies) is a 2 1/2 month old sable-headed white rough Collie pup. He is the largest of the litter and seems to be gaining in stature whenever I turn my back. He is happy and engaged and seems to be the acknowledged leader of the bunch without being too pushy. Thistle had his first two puppy vaccines in Nebraska before his transport to Colorado. RMCSR covers the additional parvo/distemper combos and Rabies as well as pre-anesthetic bloodwork prior to his neuter at about 1 year of age (at which time we will also have his umbilical hernia repaired which is no big deal) and a Home Again microchip with lifetime database registration. Current veterinary experts tell us that waiting a little longer to spay or neuter your pet increases bone density and overall health and well-being. A big, glorious Collie is a joy to behold. A good solid beginning to training is a positive reinforcement only puppy class that you will find offered in many places by a local kennel club. Only positive training is appropriate with a Collie puppy which is a very soft breed and a heavy-handed approach will be counter-productive to building a bond with you dog. Collies love to learn and you will be delighted with how quickly your baby will master commands and learn to weasel themselves into every facet of your lives. We have promised Thistle that we will screen carefully for the best possible home for him. And he will be sitting on my foot, smiling into my eyes, while I am on the computer. Because that is what Collies do.
