This 11# Sheltie/Chihuahua pooch came from a municipal shelter where he was absolutely shut down and frightened beyond words. The staff reached out to us and asked if we would help rehab him. Of course, we said yes. Many sensitive dogs simply cannot handle the noise and stress of being in a shelter. It is not the best environment for any animal, ever. But for this little guy, he retreated into himself and would have bitten if given the opportunity. Within a couple of days of his release to RMCSR, Bodie announced to the world that things were much, much better. He started interacting with the other dogs in his foster home. And he discovered that sleeping on the bed was very cool. (My dogs think so, too.) Pets on Broadway did all his pre-anesthetic bloodwork, neutered him, did a dental cleaning and added a Home Again microchip for good measure. A good friend of one of our fabulous volunteers met him and it was love at first sight. Bodie still has some issues that are being worked through with his new mom and dad. Separation anxiety did not come overnight and it will not be rectified overnight either. Whole Dog Journal is a wonderful monthly publication that addresses the "whole dog" whether discussing quality dog foods or behavioral problems. Our director gets regular e-mails from the editors and shares them often on our Facebook page. Cindy and Bill are doing some reading and ongoing training with some of their guidance. Bodie may not be perfect. But his mom and dad think so. Congratulations, Bill and Cindy! It's a boy!
