Velvet Lass has come to us from another rescue group that had no fabulous applications for her.  She has been here in Colorado for just a couple of days and we are getting to know her and figuring out where she belongs in the world.

She is quite lovely, as you can see.  But what you can't see is that she is extremely insecure and not comfortable around other dogs.  Will that change, as she learns that there is more than enough love and food for her, all the time?  We don't know if that will ever change.  Dogs come into rescue for all kinds of reasons and with all kinds of baggage.  We try to help them shed those negative feelings.

Let's start with all the good things about Velvet Lass.  She is a 48#, 5-year-old spayed female rough Collie/ Border Collie/Sheltie mix (we think.)  She is heartworm negative and quite healthy.  She had a complete dental cleaning with no extractions on 6/24 at Pets on Broadway in Denver.  A doggie door was such an easy fix for a dog that had not spent much time inside and she goes in and out and potties right where she is supposed to.  Easy enough for this smart, friendly, active dog.  She is a blank slate, eager to learn, especially from the hands of a man.  Not that she doesn't like women but she gravitates toward men.  Her foster dad can do no wrong.  And she is okay with kids but not particularly drawn to them.

So, let's be clear.  Velvet Lass is looking to be in a single dog family with people who are at least as smart as she is.  She will promise to be loving and loyal and ready for adventures.  We are hoping to place her into a foster-to-adopt situation fairly quickly so that she will begin to learn the unconditional trust piece that is the heart of any good relationship.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
