Skye is this pup's name.   And now, at about 15 months of age, he also has the nickname of FuzzButt.  And it suits him! What breed he might be is up for discussion.  I was asked to take a Collie mix and...... here he is. Personally, I don't think there is a single drop of Collie in him.  I would guess Samoyed and Great Pyranees.  Or Golden Retriever and Mountain Gorilla.  But I am so curious about his parentage that I did something I have never done but always wanted to do.  I sent out a DNA sample to determine his ancestry.  But, for now and just for fun, guesses are welcome.

Skye is a happy and healthy fellow.  He is neutered and has all the appropriate vaccines as well as a HomeAgain microchip.  He knows his basic manners and we are working on additional commands and to help him understand how big and strong he is.  He knows how to use a dog door and is crate-trained for overnight with no problems. But what is much more important is the sunny nature of this dog and that is something that is pre-programmed in him and could not be taught.  Every day is full of adventure and Skye wants to share that adventure with loving humans.  He adores men, women, children and other dogs.  We have not seen him yet with cats but I can imagine him licking a kitty all over with his big tongue and enjoying the fun of it. ( I am not certain if the cat would feel the same way!)

A big puppy is a force of nature.  Skye likes to chew up soft things that are left within his reach.  Kleenex, napkins and throw pillows have all been in his mouth.  ("Drop it" is the command he is learning.)  He is easily distracted by squirrels, bunnies and anything else that moves quickly.  He needs a very secure yard with a six foot high fence to keep him safe.  He loves to run full speed after a tennis ball and full speed to bring it back to the person who threw it.  Fuzz is a dog that will make you laugh every day.

Strong, firm and direct commands should be used when training a young dog.  Skye knows the basics of sit, down, stay and come, all of them done best with a training treat.  He will walk fairly well on your left side although not quite in the heel position.  He tries so hard to understand the human language and will watch your facial expressions and tip his head either to the left or right to express himself.  It is adorable!

No toddlers please.  Skye would not mean to overwhelm them but it would happen just the same.  A couple of kids in middle school or high school and a parent that runs and has a sense of humor......that would be heaven for FuzzButt.
